Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
Irritable bowel syndrome, is a problem affecting the large intestine. There are many symptoms, some of which are obvious, but for many people the issue is living with the constant discomfort caused by the poor functioning of the intestine.
The common symptoms include having trouble going to the toilet (constipation), alternating with very loose bowel motions or stools (diarrhoea).
IBS is a common problem 10-20% of the population can be living with the issue. It is more common in women than in men with symptoms usulally starting in the 20's or 30's.
IBS can often be associated with stressful life events. The events can be present time events but often there are more deep seated reasons triggering the response.
Counselling has proved very effective for some of those suffering from IBS. In my practice I have assisted a number of clients with understanding the mind and body connection which can be driving some of the IBS response.
There are many options for managing IBS. I can help you recognise some of the underlying issues of this common health issue and give you the tools to manage yourself in order to reduce the limits in your life.
